Recently I was watching the Bucket List, that movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Anyway, in the movie, Freeman turns to Nicholson and tells him that in Egyptian mythology, the newly dead are always asked these two questions:

Have you experienced joy in your life? And have you given joy to others?

Now, this isn’t exactly a shocking revelation. We’re all taught that the right thing to do is to love our neighbour, help out a mate. But I do think we put so much energy into searching for our own happiness that we’ve forgotten about the easiest way to find it – to do something for someone else.
